vCons | Voice and Conversations on the Net https://von.tc/vcons Edition: Evergreen information (not tied to an event) Dataset version 0.4.1, updated 2026-10-31 # What Is a vCon? A memory layer for AI communication A vCon is a virtualized conversation: a structured, portable, machine-readable memory object that represents a communication event. Voice becomes memory. Memory becomes action. vCons give every conversation a file AI can use. ## What a vCon contains - Participants - communication channels used - interaction timing - surrounding context - derived insights - governance information. ## An open standard, not a vendor’s idea vCon is being standardized in the open through the IETF, the standards body behind TCP/IP and TLS. - IETF vCon Working Group (https://datatracker.ietf.org/group/vcon) - Conserver.io (https://conserver.io) - The vCon Foundation (https://thevconfoundation.com/) ## Why vCons matter As AI systems participate in conversations, governed memory becomes essential. AI systems can work from structured conversation data rather than raw transcripts. ## A vCon is not a recording or transcript A call recording is raw audio. A transcript is raw text. A vCon is a governed memory container that binds structure, context and permissions together. ## Governed memory by design Access permissions, reuse parameters, purpose limitations and retention can travel with the conversation. ## vCons and AI communication Systems built on vCons can maintain context, respect consent and demonstrate accountability.
